PhD position in Immunology

Our research group at the Institute of Immunology in the Biomedical Center of the LMU (www.immunologie.med.uni-muenchen.de) focusses on dendritic cell biology and questions related to the differentiation and functional specialization of dendritic cell subpopulations in the context of inflammation and viral infection. In this specific project we investigate the presentation of viral antigens to CD4+ T cells by primary human dendritic cell subpopulations and the cellular response to the vaccine

Activities and responsibilities

We are now recruiting a PhD student for our ongoing project on the human immune response to yellow fever vaccination. The FlavImmunity project is a collaborative effort of four research groups at LMU Munich, Institut Pasteur and Institut Cochin (Paris) which aims to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of the vaccine yellow fever vaccine 17D. We are also integrated into the collaborative research center TRR237 ‘Nucleic Acid Immunity‘ (www.trr237.uni-bonn.de).

Qualification profile

Applicants should hold a Masters or equivalent degree in Immunology, Cell biology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Medicine or similar and should have a strong commitment to research and to a scientific career. In depth knowledge of Immunology is required and previous practical experience in molecular biology techniques, basic immunological techniques and mammalian cell culture are desirable. Applicants should show an aptitude to teamwork, constructive discussion of results and creative thinking. Proficiency in spoken and written English is expected.
LMU is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates. LMU explicitely encourages the application of women.

We offer

Graduate students will benefit from a structured training platform provided by the Integrated Research Training Group 1054 ‘Cell-Fate Decisions in the Immune System’ (www.sfb1054.med.uni-muenchen.de) and the program offered by the LMU Graduate Center. Degrees offered through the Munich Medical Research School of the LMU are the PhD in Medical Research or the Dr. rer. biol. hum. (www.en.mmrs.med.uni-muenchen.de).
